A Japanese woman was likely impregnated with the fertilized egg of another woman by accident during an in vitro procedure last year, hospital officials said Thursday.

The woman, who is in her 20s, aborted the pregnancy when she was told of the potential mix-up at the government-run hospital in Kagawa prefecture, about 330 miles (530 kilometers) southwest of Tokyo.

She is now suing the local government for 20 million yen ($222,000), according to news reports.
Hospital officials apologized for the mistake at a news conference Thursday.
"She was very happy after undergoing such a difficult procedure and becoming pregnant, but unfortunately a mistake had been made," said Yuzo Matsumoto, director of the Kagawa Prefectural Central Hospital.

The hospital has a long history of carrying out such procedures, and this is the first time such a mistake has occurred, hospital spokesman Hajime Morishita said.
"The in vitro procedures are carried out in sequence one after the other, and in this case the eggs from one procedure may have accidentally been left over and used in the following procedure," he said.

In vitro procedures _ in which a woman's eggs are removed, fertilized outside the womb, and placed in her uterus to cause a pregnancy _ are common in Japan, with hundreds of thousands carried out per year.

The case drew wide attention because bearing and raising children who are not related to the mother is uncommon and has been discouraged by Japanese medical groups.
Surrogate births, in which eggs are removed for fertilization and implanted in another woman, and adoptions are rare in the country.

Well ... I love this yr's v-day to the MAX!

Today was spent ...

Firstly, with my singing class friends. Teacher nv come. As far as I know, he forgot how to come to cck cc out of a sudden, and had a car accident. >< Jia Xiang and Vanessa pk-ed with Xue Ling and Wee Kian (姐弟恋!) as well as another team in singing 只对你有感觉 by Fahrenheit. How hilarious.

Then, after a long long time, JX, Van, XL, WK and Wee Keong and I finally reached Far East Plaza and started shopping.

We walked here and there, searching for stuffs. Then, we came by a shop named Elitrend. Everyone agree to buy the same specs (but diff colours) and wore that tgt for the rest of the day. $12.90, but worth it. Everyone wore specs, just that Van's have degrees. Hahas! xD

Thnks to XL, who came out with what makeover, caused me to be so embarassed in public. LoL!

Down to Tangs Plaza. We cant use vouchers to buy food at the Tangs market. -.- Guess everyone's stomach's grumbling, esp XL and I.

Hmm ... I felt abit emotional after witnessing some scenes.

Went to the top floor to buy XL's sis present or sth. Took so long. Zzz ... WKian and WKeong started crapping. So a lesson learnt: Dnt go out with these 2 IMMATURE BOYS again *kidding!* As we're walking ard, WKian opened the Mentos and half of the sweets dropped on to the ground. JX, Van, WKeong and I were like "LoL!" This DISGUSTING boy still picked it up and eat, on of those was kicked by JX. Eww!

Mac-ed. I cant believe I treated WKian ice cream cone. He's like kept pestering me cuz i promise him. -.- Crapped. Talked about XL's working experience at Yew Tee's Mac. I dnt think I'm eating Fish Fillet and ice cream cone again. LoL!

Back to Far East to shop. JX brought his stuffs. Then we went to find for things for Van and I. Note: She didnt spent a cent on buying clothings and accessories! We felt that it's abit wasted, so we just wanted her to buy something. Came by an interesting shop. The ppl there are rly nice. I'll go their shop again if I ever go Far East Plaze again! ^^

Bus-ed 190 hm. Everyone was tired. WKeong said that WKian almost knocked into a woman, and her bf is by her side. LoL!

1. I'm not doing well in my schwork. I'm angry with myself. Wonder how mum would react when she knows this. She'll be damn disappointed. );
2. It's Kok Chuan bday on 12 feb, thurs. 3/9 celebrate his bday by singing ard 7 bday songs to him, each in diff lessons. Thats sth worth to rmb. ^^
3. Phys lesson was fun. We're clapping our hands for a LONG LONG time when Mr Lau stepped into the class. And his reaction was damn cute! Hahas! xD And, I didnt know Mr Lau can be SEXY!
4. Cca on wed and fri was so-so. Had FAC trainings all the time. -.- Hope there's PT session soon! ^^ And my FAC team was doing quite well. Hope we can get 5th position and above in the comp so as not to disappoint anyone.
5. Choco's (Nurul) FAC team was also doing a great job. We combined our teams today and did the FAC sequence footdrills. We rocks the world ok! =DDD
